How to Paint a Landscape Using Acrylics

Painting a landscape in acrylic is a great way to show off your creative skills. It’s an easy process that can be completed in any amount of time. You just need to be patient and have some good supplies. Here are some tips by talented acrylic painter Marvin Jemal on how to paint a landscape in acrylic.

Get started with your paint palette

Marvin Jemal indicates that you’ll have to make sure you have a good painting palette. This painter suggests picking up various paint colors that will be able to go with your landscape. You’ll also want some white, light blue, dark blue and black paint.

Next, you’ll need paint brushes that are at least 2 inches in width and bristles that aren’t too soft or too stiff. Each brush should have a different size of bristles because they work better with different types of paint.

Marvin Jemal recommends acquiring some good quality acrylic paints on hand as well as some mediums like water-soluble oil pastels, smearing and glazing mediums, and other painting mediums for mixing with your acrylic paints.

Use a light and dark palette

A light and dark palette is a good way to give your landscape some depth. You will want to paint everything in the lighter shades, leaving the darker ones for the sky.

Some things you may want to consider painting in acrylic include rocks, trees and mountains. This can be done by using multiple layers of paint on a canvas.

Start with a basic landscape

When you go to paint a landscape, you probably want to start with something simple. According to Marvin Jemal, it’s best to choose a generic landscape that doesn’t have too many details.

Add details and shadows

If you want your painting to stand out, Marvin Jemal indicates that adding details and shadows will help. You can use oil paints or acrylics to add texture and dimension to your landscape. For example, if you’re painting a field of flowers with light shining on them, you can paint in the sun’s rays. This will create an effect that looks like the light is streaming from above. Marvin Jemal uses this technique in his paintings.

Change the perspective of your painting

Marvin Jemal indicates that the first step in painting an acrylic landscape is choosing a perspective. You might want to choose one that’s different than what you would normally paint.

Finish up with highlights and shadows.

When painting a landscape, the most important part of the process is to give your work some depth. In Marvin Jemal’s opinion, the best way to do this is by adding shadows and highlights to your work. To start, paint all of your shadows in black paint and then use white paint to highlight different areas. This will help make your painting look more realistic and interesting.

Next, it’s time to add texture! Use a sponge brush or piece of clean cloth to create waves or other designs on your artwork. You’ll have less control over the end result if you use water, but it will still provide some interesting effects.
